Abstract

|
Recent advances in the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia have led to higher
remission rates and to a quite increment in the remission duration and the survival. But
in those who are refractory to conventional regimens, the management was difficult.
There have been many reports that AMSA has a significant antileukemic activity,
especially in refractory cases. Twenty adults with refractory or relapsing acute myeloid
leukemia were put on AMSA with a total dose of 120 to 600mg/§³ of BSA given over
1 to 5 days intravenously. Of twelve patients who received an adequate trial, two
achieved a complete remission and two had a partial remission, and it occurred when
AMSA was administered at a dose level of 120 mg/§³/day for consecutive 5 days. Our
results suggest that AMSA seems to be not so effective as reported before, but it
should to considered to use as a part of new combination regimen.
